They’re called Native American because they are native to the americas. But Christopher Columbus the idiot he was thought he was sailing to India and therefore when he reached North America thought the native Americans were Indians hence why they’re also called Indians. Really calling a Native American “Indian” is just disrespectful in two counts because they have nothing to do with like Indians from India
